The seed
Sourced from three growers who supply variety name, harvest year and germination rate. Nothing here is F1. Germination test results are on the back of each packet, which is a legal requirement most packets meet in the smallest legible type.
Storing
Cool, dark and dry — a tin in an unheated room beats a drawer in a kitchen. Most of these will still germinate acceptably in year three, with the exception of parsnip and allium, which are genuinely one-season seed.
