Materials
Forged carbon steel head with a closed socket, steamed ash shaft, ash YD grip riveted through. The socket is formed from the same piece as the blade — a strapped head is cheaper to make and is where every failed spade in a shed has failed.
Care
Scrape the soil off before it dries. Sharpen the leading edge with a file once a season and it will go through turf like it did the first day. Linseed on the shaft each autumn.
