Materials
Aluminium oxide, 400 grit one side, 1000 the other, in a hardwood case with a rubber foot. Water stone rather than oil — water is easier to clean off a tool you are about to put in soil.
Use
Soak it for five minutes, keep the angle the tool came at, and work the bevel side only. On secateurs and knives, a handful of strokes twice a season beats a full regrind once every five years.
